MANIFEST MEDIA FEATURED IN THE NEWS
The life of a migrant, the life of a local. Do these meet and co-exist and can they share similar stories? The multimedia installation exhibition, ‘Island in the Sun’ by Maren Wickwire and Melissa Hekkers, set to take place during the Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival next week (November 10th-12th), highlights such issues of migration and social marginalisation, by presenting them from new perspectives.
The title of your report, "Island in the Sun" is ironic allusion to the problems of migrants in Cyprus? The title refers to multiple aspects of migration that we see on the island, such as the systematic isolation of many people who are left alone in a bureaucratic vacuum, without legal advice.Sometimes staying for months and sometimes for years, without being able to move on with their lives. People approached in constant struggle for survival, forced to take care of not only them but also their families themselves at home.
