Brach und Wild

An audiovisual tour, a performative installation on a wasteland.

Can we gain insights into human life by observing flora? Magdalena Weniger (performance) and Maren Wickwire (film) turn to wastelands in the landscape, as well as human biographies, and research their creation, development and explore their potential.

While the performance of three dancers and the soundtrack of interview fragments and field recordings can be experienced directly, other multidimensional exhibition objects must first be discovered. The tour thus becomes an individual confrontation with the 13,000 square meter wasteland on site and the theme in itself.

In their botanical work cycle, KOMA&Ko explore the dynamic human-environment exchange and collaborate with experts from art and science. In addition to the performative installation brach und wild (2021), the multi-layered solo performance Tiarella Hybrid - a botanical personality study (2021) and Compost Composing (2022), a performance walk that resulted in an immersive audiovisual installation, were created.

  • "There's a lot to discover. Engaging in it requires patience, calm, and time. Speed or duration are just as freely selectable categories here as the freedom to engage, to endure the emptiness, or not."

Rico Stehfest/ Review Dresdner 03.09.2021

  • "The sometimes indeterminate openness and expanse of the space, the large distance between the stations with their own "cosmoses," the sometimes loose textures of meaning in the interviews. The three performers who filled the space like allegorical figures in a Kurosawa film. All of this worked well together for me."

Friedrich Hausen/ Philosoph

  • " It was just the right day to stretch time and space on a wasteland. "

Florence Freitag/ Artist

  •  “ I am going home very enriched. ”

Mrs. Frank/Retiree

  • "A truly beautiful work. We know what you're capable of on stage, but the fact that you dared to work so minimally on such a large surface was a great achievement, and still bears your signature."

Elisabeth Krefta/ Hellerau EZK program team
